Love That View!

Malaga, Spain

View Europe 2023 on margofiala's travel map.

Hola! We are off traveling again after six great weeks in Malaga, Spain. We are spending our time planning the rest of our trip, working on our Spanish and enjoying Malaga with friends and family. If you’re interested in checking out more on Málaga, here are just a few of several previous blogs that we have done that include Malaga. It’s a great spot! We came back for a reason. https://margoanddean.travellerspoint.com/52/|, https://margoanddean.travellerspoint.com/71/|

Here’s our plan for the next 6 weeks: First to London to see our niece Erika Gundesen in her first West End performance “The Lehman Trilogy” https://thelehmantrilogy.com/, and Bath for the weekend. Then off to Berlin, Prague, Vienna and Croatia, and home by the end of May.

We have had an awesome AirBnB in Malagueta, a beach area of Malaga right on the Mediterranean Sea //https://abnb.me/48qsTlVHSyb . Great spot for watching the world go by: cruise boats coming in and out, sun bathers, swimmers, surfers, people exercising and lots of dog walking. We even saw dolphins a few times (sorry, too fast for pictures).

Leesa, my sister from Vancouver, was our first visitor. Thanks for spending your spring break with us, and bringing our Team Canada shirts!

Hiking in Cómpeta:

At the Alhambra in Granada:

Check out our blog for more pictures of the Alhambra during COVID there was no one there, so much better for picture taking! https://margoanddean.travellerspoint.com/49/|

Shoe shopping!

The gorge at Ronda:

Lunch at Nerja:

Surprise air show on the beach one day, they were practicing for an event the next day. Everyday is a holiday in Spain!

We met our friends from Denver, Janet and Quinn Polsinelli, in Granada at Hotel Cerro del Sol. This lovely spot is owned and managed by their daughter’s Spanish family, on the outskirts of Granada. (https://www.cerrodelsol.es/en)

Out with the family in Granada:

On the way back to Malaga:

We have done this hike before but it is so stunning that when Janet and Quinn suggested it, we were happy to go again. The “Caminito del Rey” or The Kings Path:

Checking out all our favorite spots in Malaga:

Sunglass shopping:

Beaching and new team shirts:

More family time, my sister Tara and brother-in-law George arrived for our last week in Malaga. We toured the Alcazaba and amphitheater on their first day to keep them awake!

Team Canada #2 explored the Gibralfaro Castle and rode bikes down the coast. The weather was amazing!

George and Dean braved the chilly water, Tara and I did the foot dip…

We did a few day trips, including Granada, Frigiliana and Nerja:

Tara’s birthday lunch at our favorite El Caleño Chiringuito:

A pretty bench in the foyer of our apartment:

We enjoyed many fun Sunday chiringuitos! A great Spanish tradition of spending a long Sunday lunch on the beach with family, friends and enjoying great grilled fish:

It was Easter in Malaga, so we experienced Semana Santa again. Last year in Sevilla and this year in Malaga. The Andalusian’s love this celebration and it is huge:

We also took a quick trip four hours east to Cartagena, where we spent Christmas 2020. We really enjoyed it there and wanted to see some things that were closed due to COVID. The Civil War Museum was a highlight, a great portrayal of what happened in Cartagena during the Spanish civil war, set dramatically in a air raid shelter:

Cartagena has a long naval history due to its strategic position between Europe and Africa. The Maritime Museum portrays this, as well as their role in developing some of the first submarines:

Our hotel had a car elevator to the garage, a new experience for us. We were parked two floors down from ground level. Here are the doors from inside:

Hoping we would make it out…

Inside the elevator, floor buttons like you would see in any elevator:

The doors open to the street level:

From the outside, it worked just fine!

We had fun in Cartagena, revisiting memories of when we were here during COVID (Dec 2020 - Jan 2021):

If you would like to see more of Cartagena, check out our previous blogs: https://margoanddean.travellerspoint.com/45/, https://margoanddean.travellerspoint.com/46/, https://margoanddean.travellerspoint.com/47/

Our furry friends from Andalucía, Peepo was definitely a fav:

Next stop: The UK, London and Bath. We are excited to see Erika’s show!
